Gallery 1: Russell
Nachman Sleepwalking
In his first solo show with Mixed
Greens, Russell Nachman will
exhibit large-scale watercolor paintings stretched over panel. Vivid
imagery associated with the 1960’s and 1970’s and a saturated color palette
accentuates his contemporary use of the medium. A vocabulary influenced by
progressive rock album covers, Earth Work artists, biographical objects, Eero
Saarinen’s TWA terminal and infamous film actors such as Klaus Kinski results in
a memory induced fantasy landscape that emphasizes the energy, optimism and
imagination of an era that Russell both celebrates and
critiques.
Gallery 2: Shoshana Dentz home land 14e,
2004
Mixed Greens is pleased to announce Shoshana
Dentz’s first solo project in Gallery 2. The exhibition's main focus
will be a large-scale, four panel woodblock print recently completed through a
residency at the Lower East Side Printshop.
For the last few years,
Shoshana has transitioned from pure abstraction to abstraction ripe with
political undertones, addressing the issues in our contemporary, global society.
Shoshana’s recent subject matter has focused on fences — from horse fences to
barbed wire fences — and the space that is delineated by these barriers. In this
print, the viewer is made to look up and through a fence in an act of hope.
