Stas Orlovski: New Work

Mixed Greens is pleased to announce a solo show with Los Angeles-based artist, Stas Orlovski.

The iconography of full moons, reflecting pools, garden statuary, songbirds, butterflies and flowers has long been associated with notions of nostalgia and sentimentality. Stas Orlovski draws on inspirations ranging from Russian children’s books to Victorian illustrations, from Japanese prints to Dutch botanical paintings, in an effort to explore the sentimental image as a vehicle for personal expression. Orlovski flirts with the bittersweet, the quaint, the melancholy, and the picturesque to depict a world of glorious decay.

Giles Lyon: Drawing from the Home Front

In his first solo exhibition at Mixed Greens, Giles Lyon will show a new series of black and white drawings.

Giles is known for his large, colorful abstract paintings that are simultaneously microscopic and macrocosmic. “Mixing automatist spills, domestic detritus, and carefully outlined biomorphs, Lyon creates funhouse explosions that reference pop culture and art history as well as biological cycles and intergalactic nebula.” In these new works, his most representational to date, he simplifies color and form to address global politics.
